I am a driver so I visit different Dunkin Donuts locations. In my last two visits, to stores on Main St in Woburn MA north of Exit 38 off Rt 128 and to a store on Commonwealth Ave near Auburn St in the Auburndale section of Newton MA I got the distinct impression that I was being deliberately shortchanged by the clerks who took my money. In one case, I got change back that was less than what I was due, even though the register showed the correct change due. In the other case, the clerk charged me for a small coffee and two donuts when I had ordered and was given a small coffee and one donut. Both of these methods would be a great way for an employee to pad their income in a busy store. Just cheating every 2nd or 3rd customer out of 25 to 50 cents could really add up over the course of a few hours.

To summarize my complaint, I am no longer confident of fair and accurate treatment by Dunkin Donuts employees.

Customers should slow down and watch the clerk carefully when your order is being rung up. Be sure of the accurate price and be sure you get the correct change.

Trust me, it was done 100% on purpose. It's happening a lot at dunkin donuts and many coffee shops. They all EXPECT a tip even though they do not work for a tipping wage (below minimum) nor do they provide a tipping service. They practice thievery AND panhandling in one fell swoop. What's worse is the hypocricy, because i know *** well they themselves, (the employees) don't tip when they go to places that earn the same wage as them; i.e. non-WAITER pay! Never work at a coffee shop...you may aquire an inflated sense of entitlement.

I've been to the dunkin donuts you are talking about. Did you ever think it might of been very busy and the girl/guy was rushing and made a mistake? did you ask him/her about the shortchange? honestly i doubt someone would risk their job especially with so many cameras for your .50 cents. Stop making innocent people look like theives.

I am certain this is a great way for them to "pad their income". Many people say "keep the change" and then it is thrown in the tip cup. Many girls who work there don't even take the change out of the register and put it into the tip cup until after the transaction has taken place(how are the cameras going to know what's forgotten tip or theft). All places are different, some share the tip cups, some have their own...all of which must be kept under the register and out of the site of customers now.

I have even experienced more times than I can count at different DD locations the cashiers just keeping my change and not even giving it back to me at all. One time I was so pissed I just waited there at the drive-up window. About 30 seconds later the same girl comes back and says, "um can I help you?" And then I was like "um yeah you could give me my change". It all amounted to maybe a little under fifty cents, but still! She was so angry and I could hear her fumbling with the register (prob. trying to recall what my change would even be) and then fishing through the tip cup. I did not tell her she could keep it, I did not drive away, I did not say thank you once she gave me my food as that could mean to her "keep the change".

Cameras don't mean anything. There's ways around it if you need to make a few extra bucks every half hour or so. At one DD near my house all the girls there knew where the camera couldn't "see" and when my friend was working I would often be slipped a cup o' joe. Only if I went to the area the camera didn't have access to. Why does everyone working there know where the camera can and cannot see? Beats me!

So thank you for posting this. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has noticed some scamming and padding of their paychecks.

To all those who don't believe this is happening, did you not read that whomever posted the story has witnessed this a few times? Do you also think it fair and right that someone not knowing simple math would be hired to work a register? I think not.

I, myself have worked at a pizza establishment where I saw ways around things and witnessed several hundreds of dollars easily being embezzled. It was a great way for my fellow employees to get a months worth of rent in one week. Luckily it has stopped now.

So unless you yourself know anything about this, please save me from your hilarious doubts. Perhaps having only the medium double shot of espresso latte on your mind steered you from realizing the high school girl scammed you easily with her basic math skills all of which you lack that early in the morning sans coffee.

With all the camera's I doubt she is doing it on puropse. You are accusing her of something serious. Maybe she is new.

i agree with the person above me. she was not doing it intentionally. cashiers do not get paid out of commission. they are paid by the hour. their pay does not depend on what is in their assigned registers.

Did she give you the correct change when you asked for it. Why do you suspect she is doing this on purpose. Is it something that you yourself would do if you worked at the register? Do you think everyone is guilty as you.
